Custom Design

To start a dialogue on custom work...
  1. Use paper and pencil to make notes.
  2. Browse the Gallery
    • On your tour, identify materials, e.g., leather or fabric, special features, e.g., number of seating positions, tooling, fringes, artistic gathers on kickplate, type of feet, color, dyed artwork, etc.
    • Select an item of furniture as a model; for example, choose a sofa with three cushions such as item 8671.
    • Note the Item ID; find it below the image (red ellipse). If multiple images are shown, click them to see closeup details.
    • Make notes on design elements like the overall shape and size, decorative extras such as fabric, tooling, fringe, and artwork and decide whether you want the same or similar or different details.
    • As appropriate, record the item number of a piece that has the color you like.
    • Have your notes ready when you create your order.
  3. Proceed to our Design & Purchase form.
  4. A representative will contact you to confirm the information.
  5. As required we may provide sample materials and exchange confirming paperwork.
  6. Upon receipt of your final order and any required down payment we will proceed to produce your item. Leadtime can be six to eight weeks depending on materials and workload; a more precise estimate will be provided for each order.

Policies and Procedures

Secure Purchasing

You may have concerns about online purchasing. You should know that online furniture sales have grown rapidly since the launch of the WWW, and purchases can be made securely, successfully and with great outcomes. We strive to make the process efficient and secure. Our online presence has been defining and delivering high quality products (including over 1,500 custom furniture items) since 1996.

When purchasing from the designer, there are many more custom options when compared to items manufactured in volume by a mass producer. At Northwest Native Designs, you can buy a copy of a previously crafted piece, or you can participate in the design process to create your own unique piece(s).

Immediate Purchase (Replications)

If you like a piece on the website that already meets your requirements, you can order it immediately through our secure shopping procedure. Your piece will be made as close as physically possible to the original, subject to the natural variations inherent in the natural materials and hand crafted manufacturing.

Customized Design

If you see something that you are interested in but not exactly as shown, that’s when the fun begins and we create a custom piece of furniture just for you. The first step is to contact our sales department to discuss what you have in mind. Typically we'll schedule a design conference, which may involve the designer if special materials or techniques are required. The craftsmen will then confirm feasibility and provide an estimate of price. In further conversations we will finalize details, and you may receive swatches or sketches for approval. In some cases an initial deposit will be required for the design work if it is extensive. Once the order is finalized we will send a custom invoice for your order. Custom upholstered furniture usually takes six to twelve weeks to complete, while all-wood furniture may be delivered sooner. Updates will be provided at key stages in the manufacturing process. Cancellations may be subject to a fee based on the stage of production and materials consumed.
